Lady Lions muzzle Bulldogs

Senior Kate Gilliland helped the Lady Lions wrap up a quick win against Venus adding 2 kills, 1 ace, 1 assist and 7 digs

The Lady Lions volleyball season went from good to great Tuesday night as the team banded together to defeat Venus in three sets 25-14, 25-11, 25-8. The team played with intensity throughout the entire game. Seniors Faith Faulkner and Mica Muro dominated the net with 8 kills each. Faulkner also had 3 blocks, 2 aces and 12 digs. Muro added 17 digs and had 4 aces. Kayla Azua matched Muro on the back row with 17 digs. Setter Amber James had 24 assists, 7 digs, a kill and an ace. Kate Gilliland had 2 kills, 1 ace and 7 digs. Joyce Volleman contributed to the win with 3 kills, 1 ace and 7 digs and Whitney Weems made her presence know at the net with 6 kills and 6 blocks.
The win against Venus Tuesday followed a impressive second place finish at the Hillsboro tournament this past weekend. Amber James was named all tournament. The senior had a combined 111 assists and was just short of 60 digs, recording 59.

Lions topple Tigers in opener

The Dublin Lions are breaking down barriers and that showed on Friday night at Dublin’s Memorial Stadium where the Lions opened the 2015 season with their second victory in two years over the Hico Tigers 13-12.
Dublin saw packed stands Friday night.
“What a turn out by the community,” Coach Bob Cervetto said. “Everyone came together to support the team and the guys felt that intensity and really fed off that adrenaline and kept that going throughout the entire night.”

Ladies dominate Clifton in opener

Senior setter Amber James totaled 15 assists, 10 digs and 1 ace.

Scott Mitchell will be teaching 7th grade Texas history this year, as well as coaching football, powerlifting and baseball. Mitchell, originally from Richardson, brings 11 years of teaching and coaching experience to Dublin.
