Weldon Wilson

Weldon H. Wilson, 65, of Stephenville, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2018 at his home.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 30 at the Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel with Jay Pemberton officiating. Inurnment will be held at Grantham Cemetery in Palo Pinto County. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, June 29 at Stephenville Funeral Home.

Weldon was born on Sept. 5, 1952 Odessa, Texas to Herschel Keith Wilson and Carley Flo Thiebaud Wilson. He married Renee Pemberton on June 25, 2005 in Stephenville. Weldon devoted his life to law enforcement starting as a police officer with the Stephenville Police Dept. He later served as a Constable for Erath County and also as a Deputy with the Erath County Sheriff’s Office.  While working for Erath County, Weldon started the pretrial department.  He has resided in Stephenville since 1986 and was a member of the Valley Grove Baptist Church.  Weldon was an avid fisherman

J.D. Hampton

A graveside service for J.D. Hampton will begin at 10:30 a.m. located at Old Dublin Memorial Park Cemetery, on Thursday, June 21, 2018.

J.D. Hampton died on June 18, 2018, in Stephenville. He was born on Dec. 1, 1926, in Brady, Texas, to William George Hampton and Ora Faye (Tatum) Hampton. 

He married Velma June Watson in Brady, Texas, on Feb. 3, 1951. To this union, they welcomed four children into their family. 

J.D. was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He took care of his family, working diligently for the U.S. State Department. He was also a member of the Rotary Club, the Dublin ISD School Board and the First Baptist Church.

J.D. was preceded in death by his loving wife, Velma, on June 14, 2012.

Retha Robbins

Retha Mae Robbins, 86, died on June 13, 2018. 

She was the daughter of Artie L. Robbins and Buna Mae Pittman on Sept. 26, 1931, in Dublin. She was a high school graduate and worked as a retail clerk. She was a follower of Jesus Christ and a member of the Patrick Street church of Christ.

She is survived by her nephew, Brian Robbins of Norman, Oklahoma, and other relatives and friends. Memorials in honor of her may be made to the American Cancer Society.

A graveside service for family members of Retha was held at Lower Greens Creek Cemetery, Saturday, June 16, 2018.

Jeremy Ware

It is with great sorrow that we announce the tragic death of Jeremy Don Ware on June 10, 2018. His parents Gary Andrew Ware and Debra Denise (Stevens) Ware Harrell anxiously awaited his birth on June 24, 1982, in Mineral Wells, Texas.  

After moving to Dublin with his family, Jeremy made a name for himself, playing for the Dublin Lions football team. Voted “Class Favorite,” Jeremy was a friend to all. His smile was contagious and his spirit was inspirational.  

After graduating from DISD, Jeremy spent time traveling, working various jobs, competing in body building competitions, gardening and cooking spicy food. 

From being a deckhand on a fishing boat in the Gulf of Texas to digging graves, Jeremy never failed to have a great story to tell. 

Jeremy inspired people to be their best by using his skills as a personal trainer. Even more so was his empathetic and caring nature expressed in his work at Harrell Funeral Home.

Maria Rodriguez

Maria Luisa Rodriguez, 60, died on June 7, 2018. She was born in Mexico to Joaquin Torres Sr. and Sofia Campos, on Feb. 5, 1958. Maria was married to Efrain D. Rodriguez on Oct. 23, 1974. To this union they welcomed four children.  

Maria was a homemaker. She dearly loved her family and will be missed. 

Maria is survived by her husband, Efrain Rodriguez Sr. of Dublin; her sons, Efrain Rodriguez Jr. and Daniel Rodriguez of Dublin; her daughters, Dey Borjon and Yazmiret Rodriguez of Dublin; eight grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, nine brothers and sisters and many more relatives and friends.

A memorial service for Maria Luisa Rodriguez will be set at a later date.

John Cooper

Larkis John Cooper, 79, died on June 5, 2018. He was the son of L.V. Cooper and Bessie (Brundrant) Cooper, born in Stephenville on Nov. 12, 1938. 

He married Betty Vanderpool on Feb. 20, 1958, in Dublin. They had two children, Cynthia and John Edward.

John worked as a salesman for Certain Teed in Waco. He was a member of the Dublin Masonic Lodge and Moslah Shriners.

John was preceded in death by his granddaughter,  Samanthia Raney in 2002, and his brother, David George Cooper of Mexia.

He will be remembered by his wife, Betty (Vanderpool) Cooper of Hamilton; his children, Cynthia Cooper of Killeen and John Edward Cooper of Dublin; a grandson; five great-grandchildren; his brother,  L.V. Cooper Jr.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A Masonic graveside service will be held at a later date.

Dita Bell Thomas

Dita Bell Thomas died at her home in Athens, Texas, on May 29, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Gordon Thomas. They both grew up in Dublin and graduated from Dublin High School.

Dita Bell was born in Colorado City, Texas, in 1927, the oldest child of Rich and Dita Cowan. They moved to Abilene for a short time, then to Comyn before moving to Dublin in 1934. The brothers Rich and Sam opened their first business, Cowan Electric, that year.

After high school, Dita Bell attended Tarleton before Gordon returned from the army. His job with the Shell Oil Company took them to McCamey, Abilene and Houston before retiring to Athens.

Dita Bell is survived by one son, Mark Thomas and his wife Geraldine, two granddaughters and six great-grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by two sisters, Willetta Tackett and Beth Brunner, and two brothers, Billy and John Cowan, plus numerous nieces and nephews.

Barbara Cannon

Graveside Services for Barbara Jean Cannon are Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 10 a.m. in Upper Greens Creek Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday, June 4, 2018 at Harrell Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Barbara died on June 1, 2018.  She was born on Feb. 10, 1937 in Monahans, Texas. She was the daughter of Quincy Burle “Bud” Agnew and Myrtle Oriene (Arthur) Agnew.  

She was united in marriage to Ronald James Cannon, Sr. on November 4, 1956 in Lovington, New Mexico and to this union 4 children were born.  She was preceded in death by her husband on June 15, 2017 and her son - Christopher Michael Cannon, Sr. in 1993.

Barbara is survived by her daughters: Teresa Feist of Priddy, Texas and Patty Shumate of Comanche, Texas; her son: Ronald Cannon of Dublin, Texas; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.

Barbara was a member of the Greens Creek Baptist Church.

Gene Huckabee

William Gene Huckabee,79, more affectionately known as “Pop”, passed away on Monday, May 28, 2018 at his home in Era, Texas.  Born on June 9, 1948 in Dublin, Texas, he was the son of Carl Orastus Huckabee and Myrtle Estalene (Jones) Huckabee.

Gene served his country in the United States Navy and attended the Era Baptist Church.  He married Virginia McCann on July 15, 1960.  They celebrated 57 years of marriage.  He was the owner/operator of Gene’s Water Well Drilling Services.
