Betty Vanderpool

Betty Ann Vanderpool, 72, of Stephenville, Texas, died peacefully in her home on Dec. 7, 2017. 

Visitation will be Sunday, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Harrell Funeral Home.

Funeral Service will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 11 at Cottonwood Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Dublin Liveoak Cemetery.

She was born to Balvin Elliot and Daisy F. (Wallace) Elliot on September 17, 1945 in Dallas, Texas. 

She married Bennie Vanderpool, on Oct. 12, 1963, in Dublin, Texas. Together they raised three children, Bennie, Jeannie, and Sheri. 

Betty attended Tarleton State University where she graduated in 1980 with a degree in nursing. She worked as a nurse for both the Stephenville and Dublin hospitals, and for Stephens Home Health. 

Betty was a Baptist and member of the Nurse Association. Memorials in honor of her can be made to the American Legion.


Windle Turney

Graveside services for Windle O’Nell Turney are  Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017 at 11 a.m. in Pecan Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017 from 6 p.m. to 8 pm.

Windle was born on Sept. 1, 1930 in Lubbock,Texas. He died on Dec. 2, 2017 at his home in Dublin at the age of 87 years, 3 months and 1 day.

He was the son of Joel Emit Turney and Mary Emma (Harvey) Turney. 

He was united in marriage to Adelia Pearl Bartley on December 22, 1948 in Meadow, Texas and to this union 4 children were born. He was preceded in death by his wife on October 30, 2015 and a son - Kelly “Don” Turney.

Windle is survived by his sons - Gary Turney of Dublin, Texas and David Turney of Stephenville, Texas; his daughter - Sharlyn Mitts of the State of Tennessee; nine grandchildren & great grandchildren; his sisters - Maureen Thurman of Odessa, Texas and Christine Northcutt of Dublin, Texas.


Marion Johnson

Marion Ruth (Walling) Johnson, 73, of La Grange, Texas, passed away on Friday, Dec. 1, 2017. 

Marion was born in Oregon on Sept. 20, 1944, the daughter of George L. Walling and Anna L. (Stewart) Walling.

She loved to travel and spent many years traveling all over the world.  She always had a smile and loved being with her family.  Marion was a loving and caring mother.  

She is survived by son, Randy Boyd and wife, Angie, of La Grange, Texas; sister, Georgia Lane of Killeen, Texas; five grandchildren: Brooke Nicole Boyd, Aleksandra Boyd, Dashia Fernandez, Meagan Sandoval and Lacy Gregg.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, David Franklin Boyd; and brother, Timothy Walling.  

Visitation was held on Monday, Dec. 4, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home.  Funeral Services followed at 11 a.m. with burial at La Grange City Cemetery.  


James Chambers

James Bernard Chambers died peacefully at his home on Nov. 27, 2017 in Maybank, Texas. 

He was born on Sept. 30, 1929 in Hamilton County, Texas to Wilson Chambers and Pauline (Brown) Chambers He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Marie (Salyer) Chambers who passed on Nov. 27, 2009. 

James was retired, owner and operator of B & M Window Covering in Dallas, Texas. He attended the Sinner’s Hope Church in Payne, Texas. 

He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Brandon James Chambers.

He is survived by his sons, Thomas Chambers of Maybank, Texas and Don Burrow of Trinidad, Texas; his daughter, Denise Thornberry of Maybank;  nine grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; his sister, Shirlene Pack of Stephenville, Texas and numerous other relatives.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2 at Harrell Funeral Home in Dublin.

Burial to follow at Erath Gardens Of Memory Cemetery.


Juanita Burleson

Juanita R. Burleson, 94,  died on Nov. 27, 2017.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Nov. 29 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Harrell Memorial Chapel.

Funeral Services will be held at Harrell Memorial Chapel Thursday, Nov, 30 at 2 p.m. After the ceremony, she will be laid to rest at Barbee Cemetery.

Juanita was born in Grosvenor, Texas on May 17, 1923 to her parents, James Edmond Robertson and Addie Mae (Wright) Robertson.
She married Gayle Barbee in 1941 and from this union, two children were born. She worked at the local peanut mill and was a member of the Edna Hill Baptist Church. Juanita was also a longtime reporter of Edna Hill news for the Dublin Citizen.

Mrs. Burleson was preceded in death by her husband, Gayle Barbee in September of 1949, her second husband, Tommie Burleson in 1996, her son, Leldon Barbee in 2001, and her sister Marie Pettijohn of Gustine, Texas.


Johnnie Tackett

Johnnie Earl Tackett, Jr. age 90 of Copperas Cove, died on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2017, in Temple.

Funeral services with Masonic Rites and Full Military Honors were Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017, at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Dan Wooldridge officiating. 

Tackett was born on May 17, 1927, in Dublin, Texas to the late Johnnie Earl Tackett, Sr. and Grace J. Faulkner.  

He grew up and went to school in Dublin and before completing high school, he was drafted into the U.S. Army at the age of 18.  

While enlisted in the Army, he graduated high school in Lawton, Okla.  He married Helen Gregory on Feb. 20, 1946.  

After serving in WWII, he was discharged and remained in the Army Reserve.  He was called up to active duty during the Korean War and Berlin Crisis.  


Charlie Morris

Charlie Morris, 80, of De Leon, died  Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017.

He was born July 29, 1937, in Gorman, to William Monroe Morris and Blanche Alene Thornton Morris. Charlie married Betty Keith May 26, 1961 at Northside Baptist Church in De Leon.

Charlie was a long-time member of De Leon First Baptist Church. He was highly active for many years serving as Gideon throughout the De Leon community and many neighboring communities. Charlie served in the United States Army as a Sharpshooter (Carbine) and a Marksman (AAA-Niki) during the Korean and Vietnam War eras. He also served as an on-base barber for his fellow soldiers. In his civilian life, Charlie worked for National Cash Register (NCR) as a technician, after returning from the service. Following his retirement, Charlie went back to work farming. 


Robert Martin

Robert Harlston Martin, 90, died Oct. 30, 2017, in St. Petersburg, Fla., of a stroke. 

He was born in Dublin, Texas to Cecil Martin and Florence Martin on May 20, 1927, the same day Lindberg flew across the Atlantic. 

Cecil and Florence Martin were lifelong residents of Dublin and raised their children there.

Robert leaves his wife of 67 years, Barbara Lynn Martin, 87. 

Mr. Martin graduated from the University of Texas in 1947 and received two Master’s degrees from the University of Arizona, Tucson, where he lived for 25 years. 

He was an electrical engineer and remained an ardent fan of the University of Texas for his entire life.

He majored in electrical engineering at the University of Texas.


Janine Weems

Services for Janine F. David Weems will be held 11 a.m. Nov. 22, 2017, at Alliance Community Fellowship in Fort Worth.

Janine, 58, died on Nov. 19, 2017. She was born Nov. 19, 1959, in Kingman, Kansas to her parents, Jerry Max David and Judith (Brown) David.

She worked as a flight attendant and instructor for American Eagle. She also was an artist, specializing in stained glass. Janine married Donald Paul Weems in Hawaii on Sept. 21, 2014.

She was preceded in death by her father in 2014.


Danny Wilson

Danny Michael Wilson, 64, died on Nov. 11, 2017. He was born on Jan. 14, 1953, in Snyder, Texas, to his parents, Franklin Wilson and Nannie Mozzell (Crosson) Wilson.

Funeral services are being planned under the direction of Harrell Funeral Home.

Danny married the love of his life, Mary Annette (Covington) Wilson, on July 16, 1972, in Ballinger. Together they raised four children. Danny spent time working as a butcher and retired as an electrician. He was also a member of the Community Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 45 years, Mary Annette Wilson, and his father, Frank Wilson.

Danny will be remembered by his daughters, Lisa Terrell of Gustine, and Mandy Alita Wilson of San Angelo; his sons, Tobias Henry Wilson of Dublin and Jay Franklin Wilson of Dublin; three grandchildren; his mother, Nannie Wilson; his sister, Diane Gill; and many nieces, nephews and friends that will cherish his memory.
