Ligon White

Ligon White, age 77, died on Sunday, January 14, 2018, in Stephenville, Texas.

He was born on Dec. 19, 1940, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Raleigh and Carolin (Ligon) White. 

On Jan. 26, 1963, he was united in marriage to Margaret Westbrook in San Angelo, Texas. 

Ligon graduated WB Ray High School in 1958 and went on to attend Texas A & M University, receiving two degrees from there and was a member of the prestigious A & M Army Corp of Cadets during his College career. 

For 40 years, Ligon was employed in retail management with Sears Elite Management Team, Kraft foods in Austin, eventually settling in Comanche where he worked for Higginbothams. He was a member of the Episcopal Church. He was also a Mason and a member of Hope Lodge #481. 


James Colbough

Visitation for James Edwin Colbough will be Saturday, Jan. 13 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Harrell Memorial Chapel. 

Funeral Services will be  Sunday, Jan. 14 at Double N Cowboy Church. Interment will follow at Barbee Cemetery.

James, age 63, died on Jan. 7, 2018. He was the son of Johnnie Colbough and Elette (Barkley) Colbough, born in Comanche, Texas on July 17, 1954.

James owned and operated Down to Earth Excavation. He was married to Delaine Rhodes on March 17, 2009 in Valentine, Texas.

He is survived by his wife - Delaine Rhodes of Glen Rose, Texas; his sons - Zack Colbough of Stephenville, Texas and Chance Colbough on Glen Rose, Texas; his daughter - Kalyndi Jackson of Iredell, Texas; numerous grandchildren; his sister - Marquita Batson of Stephenville, Texas; his brother - Charlie Colbaugh of Dublin, Texas, and many more friends and relative who will miss him.


Sybil Estep

Sybil Mable Delila Martin Estep, age 101, of Dublin, Texas, walked through the Gates of Heaven Wednesday evening, January 3, 2018. She dearly loved her family, always had a smile on her face, and a kind heart toward everyone she met. 

Sybil was born September 23, 1916, to Clarence Forrest “Pa” and Alice Mae “Mamie” (Garrett) Martin, in a two-room house on the family farm west of Spur, Texas. She was the third child of four and often spoke fondly of the simple days of her childhood and growing up with her two brothers, Harry Bob and Clarence Forrest Jr. “June”, and older sister, Robbie.


Juanita Davis

Juanita Davis was born on December 15, 1928 in the Cottonwood Comunity of Erath Co., Texas. She died on January 5, 2018 at the age of 89 years and 21 days. 

She was the daughter of Thomas Elmer Thackerson and Irene (DeBusk) Thackerson. 

Juanita was united to William Joyce Allen, who preceded her in death in 1963. 

Later, she married Earl Davis who also preceded her in death in 1994. 

Also, preceding her in death was her son,  Dickey Joe Allen, in 1988 and her sister, Faye Gooch.

Juanita is survived by her son,  Ron Allen of Willow Park, Texas; her son, Zack Davis of Ft. Worth; nine grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren; Her brothers, Sonny Thackerson of Dublin and “Pete” Elmer B. Thackerson of Gustine; her four sisters, Flo Allen of Granbury, Sally Jackson of Weatherford, Artie Mohler of Cedar Hill, Texas and Nora Carter of Dublin; and a host of other relatives and many friends who will miss her dearly.


Bill Jones

Billy Fred ‘Bill’ Jones, 84, of Stephenville, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2018, in Stephenville.

Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, January 7 at West End Cemetery with Darrell Wallace officiating.  Visitation was Saturday at Stephenville Funeral Home.

Bill was born on Feb. 24, 1933, in Dublin to the late Reverend B. F. and Leona Rogers Jones.  

He married Oneta Broadway on Dec. 25, 1952 in Dublin.  Bill and Oneta celebrated 65 years of marriage together on December 25, 2017. 

Bill served his country in the U. S. Air Force.  He was a member of the First Congregational Methodist Church and a life long resident of Erath County.  Bill spent most of his life in the automotive body repair business. 

He retired after more than 20 years as Manager of the Body Shop at Bruner Motors. 


Brenda Stephens

Memorial services for Brenda Joy Stephens are  Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018 in Harrell Memorial Chapel at 11 a.m., Cremation to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brownwood Cancer Center in Brownwood, Texas.

Brenda was born on Dec. 29, 1956 in Arlington, Texas. She died on Jan. 1, 2018 at the age of 61 years and 2 days. 

She was the daughter of John Miley and Delora (Bickerstaff) Miley. She was united in marriage to Denny Caston Stephens in Tolar, Texas on March 25, 2000. She was preceded in death by her brother - Jim Miley.

Brenda is survived by her husband - Denny Stephens of Dublin, Texas; her son - Mickey McCoy of Dublin; her brother - Curtis Miley of Des Moines, Iowa; her step-children - Dee Payne of Hamilton, Texas, Scott Stephens of Kincade, Kansas & Ginger Stephens of Montrose, Colo. and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends who will miss her dearly.


Virginia Wilson

Virginia Ann “Sister” Wilson, 72, of Gustine, passed away at her home Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017. Graveside services, under the directions of Heartland Funeral Home of Comanche, will be held at the Purves Live Oak Cemetery, near

Virginia Ann Thedford was born April 20, 1945, in her home in Carlton, TX, to Lucian and Lucy (Carson) Thedford. 

Virginia and Johnny R. Wilson were married June 13, 1964, in the home of Corky and Joyce Wilson. She was a member of Carlton Baptist Church. Virginia was a very loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and granny. She enjoyed the lake life with family and friends. Virginia was a little stubborn and opinionated at times but was the one that many turned to when life got rough.


Pearl Keith

Funeral services for Pearl Ruby Keith were Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, in Highland Baptist Church. Interment followed at Round Grove Cemetery.

Pearl was born on Aug. 30, 1926, in Comanche County. She died on Dec. 29, 2017, in Stephenville at the age of 91 years, 3 months and 30 days. 

She was the daughter of Louis Ed Bays and Mary Myrtle (Corbell) Bays. She was united in marriage to Wayne Keith on July 6, 1946. 

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1985 and two children, Glen and Lynn Keith, and her grandson, Jalon Harrison, in 2017.

Pearl is survived by her daughters Ruby Cooper of Aledo, Texas, and Wanda Pringle of Stephenville; her sons, Robert  Keith of Dublin, Don  Keith of Dublin and Tim Keith of Stephenville, nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and many friends.

Pearl was an active member of the Highland Baptist Church for many years.

Memorials may be made to Highland Baptist Church.


Don Fincher

Richard Donald “Don” Fincher, Jr., aged 60, died Dec. 18, 2017. 

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Dec. 21 at 2:30 p.m.

He was born in Hobbs, N.M., on May 28, 1957, to his parents Richard Donald Fincher, Sr. and Barbara Ann (Clark).

Don married Teri (Blakely) Fincher on July 1, 1978. Together, they raised two sons, Ryan and Collin.

Don worked for Western Dairy Transport where he retired after 27 years. He was also a Baptist.

He will be remembered by his wife - Teri Fincher of Dublin, Texas; his sons - Ryan  Fincher of Howe, Texas and Collin Fincher of Dublin, Texas; three grandchildren; his mother - Barbara Fincher of Wichita Falls, Texas; his sisters - Delores Scarber of Wichita Falls, Texas and Sandy Flores of Keller, Texas; his brother - Robert Fincher of Memphis, Tenn.; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.


Seth Turner

On Sunday, December 17, 2017, Seth Lamar Turner went to be with the Lord.  

Visitation will be  Wednesday, Dec. 20 from  6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Harrell Memorial Chapel.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec.  21 at Harrell Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow in Dublin Liveoak Cemetery.

He was born July 27, 1928 in Coryell County, Texas to his parents Charles Edgar Turner and Bessie Melvina (Thompson) Turner. He attended Gatesville High School.

Seth, along with his mother and father, were involved in raising Shorthorn cattle. In 1949, Seth exhibited the Grand Champion steer at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo.

Seth married Virginia Ruth (Crouch) Turner in Fort Worth, Texas, on December 23rd of 1956. They were together until Virginia’s passing on February 12, 2009.
