Gene Maikell

Ella Gene Maikell was born on July 23, 1930 in Erath Co., Texas. Gene died on Oct. 6. 2018 in Austin, Texas at the age of 88 years, 5 months and 13 days.  

She was the daughter of John Madison Box and Zola Alice (Chambers) Box.  She was united in marriage to Loyd Douglas Maikell on June 7, 1947 and to this union three children were born.  

She was preceded in death by her husband on Oct. 10, 1989, son - Bobby Maikell in 1992 and  grandson - Steven Maikell in 1982.

Gene is survived by her daughter- Barbara & Ralph Thomas of Round Rock, Texas; her son - Steve Maikell of Sweetwater, Texas; her grandchildren - Shadna Wise, Jonathan Maikell, Stephanie Maikell, Damon Maikell and Cody Woods; five great grandchildren; her brother - Johnny Box and a host of other relatives and many friends who will miss her dearly.

Services were Monday, Oct. 8, 2018 in Harrell Memorial Chapel in Dublin, Texas. Burial followed in Old Dublin Liveoak Cemetery.


Jerry Swindle

Jerry Max Swindle, 72, of Dublin died on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018. Born in Gorman on Oct. 11, 1945, son of Wayne M. “Red” Swindle and Blaine Fenton Elton.

He was a graduate from Comanche High School and Berean Bible School in Dallas. He made his home in Dallas for more than 30 years, where he married and raised two daughters. He also pioneered and owned Metroplex CB Sales in 1974. Jerry was a lifelong entrepreneur and was affectionately called “Big Jerry” by many of his closest friends and family. 

Loving father to Candice Renee Sepe, 47, of Wylie, Texas, and Melissa Ann Swindle, 42, of Tampa, Florida, and grandfather to Hudson Blaine Sepe, 8, of Wylie.

Jerry was a beloved brother to Elton Swindle, Phyllis Polvado, Kelvin Swindle and Karen Swindle McEvoy and uncle to many nieces and nephews.  


Grace Matthews

Visitation for Grace Matthews will be Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2018 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Harrell Funeral Home. 

The service will be Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Church for Lost and Found. Burial will be at Cook Walden/ Forrest Oaks Memorial Cemetery in Austin, TX. 

Grace Matthews died on Sept. 29, 2018. She was born to her father Dolphus Jones and mother Kathleen H. Jones on  Sept. 12, 1935 in Alto, Ga. 
Grace graduated high school and spent her life as a homemaker. Grace was in the U.S. Airforce.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her brother, Dolphus “Bud” Jones of Andrews, TX; and her nieces, Dawn Jones Marshall, Monica Wilburn Terry, Kimberly Copeland, Ashley Kingsley and Lindsey Glasscock.


Ronnie Stephens

Ronnie Preston Stephens, 74, of Gustine, Texas passed away on Sept. 30, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer.
On May 29, 1941 George and Anna Ree Moore Stephens welcomed their first son, Ronnie, into the world. His parents raised him in Gustine alongside his younger brothers. During his early years he learned the virtues of hard work and perseverance growing up on his family’s farm.

After graduating from Gustine High School he attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, earning a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education.


Vincent Herrera

Visitation for Vincent Herrera will be Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Harrell Memorial Chapel. His funeral service will be Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Harrell Memorial Chapel. Donations will be greatly appreciated to help with funeral expenses. 

Vincent was born on Oct. 9, 1972 to Forney Herrera and Elena R. Burns. He died on Wednesday Sept. 26, 2018. He had 3 children whom he was deeply proud of, Veronica, Candice and Anthony Herrera. Vincent loved working on vehicles as he was a great mechanic and loved to “fix things.”

He leaves behind 3 sisters, 1 brother, 1 grandson, 7 nieces, 2 nephews and 1 great niece. He loved his family more than anything in this world. 


James Salyer

James Preston Salyer died on  Sept. 26, 2018. He was born in Dublin, TX on Dec. 9, 1943 to his father George Preston Salyer and his mother Beatrice (Humphries). James attended the Martin Chapel Church in Deleon, TX. He spent his life farming and spending time with his family. 

Preceding James in death was his parents and his brother Bobby Salyer.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his daughter: Stephanie Tyus of Granbury, TX; his two sons, Glen Salyer of Dublin, TX and Reuben  of Azle, Tx; 11 Grandchildren; three great-grandchildren: and companion, Laura Singleton of DeLeon, TX and several other relatives and friends.

Visitation for James will be Friday Sept. 28, 2018 from 6 p.m. to  8 p.m. at Harrell Memorial Chapel in Dublin, TX. 

The service will be on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Harrell Memorial Chapel in Dublin, Texas with a burial after the service at Barbee Cemetery. 


Beverly Thackerson

Beverly Joana (Tolar) Thackerson died on Sept. 24, 2018. 

She was born in Ennis, Texas, on Aug. 5, 1930, to her father Harry Tolar and her mother Vera E. Money. Beverly was married to Elmer B. “Pete” Thackerson in Irving, Texas, on Oct. 15, 1982. Beverly was a Baptist. She was self employed.

Preceding Beverly in death was her father Harry Tolar and mother Vera E Money, her son Rady Kelly, her daughter Carla, her brother Sonny Tolar and her great-granddaughter Avery Dunn.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her husband,  Elmer B. “Pete” Thackerson of Gustine and her daughters, Gaye Allen of Granbury and Melinda Truitt of Colony, Texas; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Beverly will be Friday, Sept. 28  from 6 to 8 p.m. at Harrell Memorial Chapel.


Maria Pacheco

Maria Rosa Elia (Marin) Pacheco died on Sept. 23, 2018. She was born in Mexico on Aug. 10,1954.Maria Rosa was married to Jose Antonio Pacheco in 1984 in Eastland. Unto this union they welcomed three children into their home. 

Rosa was a Catholic and she spent her life as a homemaker, caring for her family.

She will be remembered by her husband, Jose Antonio Pacheco of Stephenville; her daughter, Natalie Alvarado of Stephenville; her sons, Antonio Pacheco and Emmanuel Pacheco, both of Stephenville; two grandchildren; her brother, Arturo Adame of Pleasanton; and numerous other relatives.

Memorial services for Maria Rosa will be held at a later date under the direction of Harrell Funeral Home.


Brandon Meador

A Celebration of Life Service for Sgt. Brandon William Meador, 32, was held Sunday, Sept. 23, 2018, at Harrell Memorial Chapel.  Burial with full military honors will follow in Barbee Cemetery. 

Brandon was born May 17, 1986, in Denton, Texas. 

He passed away on Sept. 15, 2018, in Bossier City, Lousiana, at the age of 32. After graduating from high school, Brandon proudly joined in the USAF in 2006, to serve his country.  

Taking with him on his military journey was his high school sweetheart and wife Jessica.  

During his military career, he served six months in Iraq and six months in Guam. At every free moment, he loved spending time with his sons playing baseball and fishing. He could be so gentle with his family, but conquer the woods and mud puddles in his truck. Known as a country boy, he could fit in anywhere. Whether he be in muddy boots and jeans or his dress uniform, he was always at ease. 


Rose Jones

Rose Jones was born at home in Dublin, Erath County, Texas to Lonzo and Mae Trice Jones on Dec. 29, 1935.  She passed away Sept. 18, 2018.  A celebration of her life will be held on Sept. 29, 2018, at 12 p.m. at West Oaks Independent Living, 1212 West 6th Street Lampasas, Texas.

Rose was a member of Lake Victor Baptist Church. She was the wife of a Deacon. Her life was filled with joy and service to her Lord. Her compassion was to help others in need in her church family and friends.  

Rose was preceded in death by her husband Tom Jones, her parents Lonzo and Mae Trice, and her four siblings, Wynelle, Melba, Faye, and W.L. 

She is survived by her sister Mavis Jo Alexander and husband Hoyt of Corinth Mississippi, daughter Debbie Perry and husband Marc of Lampasas and Steve Jones of Lakeway.  Rose is also survived by six grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren to whom brought her great joy and laughter.
