Garner Rice

Funeral services for Garner Elgene Rice, 86, of Brownwood, was held Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018, at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Garner Rice died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018, at his home.

Garner Rice was born May 25, 1932, to James Frank and Bertha (Parrish) Rice at their home in Brookesmith. He graduated from Brookesmith High School and Howard Payne University before being drafted into the United States Army, where he proudly served his country. Garner taught school in the towns of Gustine, Carbon and Gorman; and he was the superintendent at Lingleville ISD from 1962 until his retirement in 1992.

Those left to cherish his memories include his son, Benny Rice  of Brookesmith; daughters, Dana Worrell of Stephenville and Marsha Rice of Fort Worth; five grandchildren, Randi and Ray Slayton, Rusty and Amber Rice and Tanner Stasey; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Verita Rice; brother, Delburn Rice; and nephew, Wendell Rice.

The family would like to thank CMS Healthcare for the wonderful care they gave Garner.
