Dublin officer honored

Dublin Police Chief Bobby Mendez presented a Police Shield Award to officer Colby Giles during the October City Council meeting, saying that Giles had been commended for following up on an abandoned vehicle and linking it with criminal activity after discovering it had been stolen from Dallas.

This motivated investigation required work on his days off and led to an arrest.

Mendez read correspondence with a coordinating officer who said Giles displayed dedication and and professionalism of a seasoned police officer even though he is only in his first year.

“I think work like that speaks more than the numbers I read here every month,” Mendez said, referring to regular reports of items such as traffic stops and arrests.
