Wayland Wright

Wayland A. Wright, 78, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2018, with his family by his side. He was born June 29, 1939, in Lamesa, Texas to William Andrew Wright and Rosa Katherine Marx Wright. Wayland married Alice Richey June 12, 1958 in Brownfield, Texas.

Wayland and Alice moved to De Leon in 1965 and in 1974 they built and opened Wright Irrigation, a family business still in operation today. Wayland farmed peanuts and ran Wright Irrigation seven days a week to provide for his family. He really enjoyed working and spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and friend.

He was survived by his daughters, Kathy Smith and husband, David, and Lacey Gibson and husband, Kelly; grandchildren, Micah Perry, Evan Johnston, Ryan Gibson, Alicen Brown, Troy Brown, Jamie Brown, Crystal Brown and James Robert Brown; and great-grandchildren, Marlee Duran, Eli Duran, Atlas Duran and Tristin Johnston; and brother, Carl Wright and wife, Wanda.

Wayland was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Wright; son, Clay Lee Wright; and parents, W.A. and Rosa Katherine Wright.

Graveside funeral services were held Friday, March 2, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. in Victor Cemetery with Brother Ray Seckinger officiating.
